Rotterdam Zoo opening hours

During the summer, Rotterdam Zoo is open from 9 am to 6 pm. 

During winter months, the zoo closes early at 5 pm. 

It remains open seven days a week, including most public holidays. 

On Sinterklaas (5th December), Christmas Eve (24th December), and New Year’s Eve (31st December), the zoo opens from 10 am to 5 pm.

How long does it take to visit Rotterdam Zoo?

Okapi

In the spring of 2015, the beloved Okapis returned to Rotterdam Zoo.

They inhabit a lush green environment that resembles an African rainforest. 

Visitors can see the okapis and tropical birds flying overhead or crossing their path within this enclosure. 

This enclosure was honored with the ‘Most Beautiful Animal Enclosure in the Netherlands’ award in 2017.

On November 21, 2021, a young okapi was born to mother M’buti and father Ngwani. 

The adorable calf was named Mayala.

Rotterdam Zoo supports the Okapi Conservation Project (OCP).

It focuses on safeguarding the Ituri forest in the northeastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. 

Recognized as a World Heritage Site since 1996, the project aims to protect the habitat of okapis.

Malayan Tapir

Rotterdam Zoo is home to Malay tapirs residing in the Taman Indah pachyderm enclosure.

Spotted Hyena
